Sens Buzz

Well the Senators made me eat my words and Martin Gerber gave the Sens their first shutout of the year. A dominant defensive effort set the tone for what the game was, and they made Tampa Bay look like an AHL team.

The Pizza Line applied some pressure at the beginning and at the end. Dany Heatley's goal was disallowed, and Daniel Alfredsson got the empty-netter. Alex Picard scored the first goal and he looked good tonight especially on the 2nd PP unit. Brian Lee played with a bit of emotion, and it probably was his best game this year, though he doesn't need to fix his game. Chris Phillips played remarkably well, making up for the Volchenkov injury fine. Filip Kuba got yet another point, and played deep into the boards and faceoffs, resulting into the what looked like an injury for St.Louis in the dying minutes of the game. Jasom Smith and Brendan Bell both played well, playing both offensive and defensive.

Ilya Zubov stole Cody Bass' spot tonight and played really good, he got an assist on Alex Picard's and he really is the face of our future, and should improve on the No.5 ranking I gave him in my December Review. Antoine Vermette yet again had a bounty of chances, but lost on them. It's the same thing for Mike Fisher, Chris Kelly, and Jesse Winchester, though they did reply with some good defensive play. Finally, Jarkko Ruutu and Chris Neil played well, becoming the bitches they need to be once again.

Gerber played good making some key saves especially in the 3rd when the Bolts were dying to get back into the game. With his good play tonight, it should be interesting to see who Hartsburg starts on Tuesday against the Thrashers.

Before I finish, I'd like to spread some new rumours. A Jay-Bo trade is becoming more unlikely every day, and as one source said "We could just see a staraight-up swap seeing Vermette gone to Vancouver for Burrows". Sens fans, do you like that possible trade?
