Tonight's game made it the second Friday in a row in which the Sens have lost a 5-1 game. First the Washington Ovechkins, and now the New Jersey Trappers. It's like we've been sent an omen from the hockey gods saying "The Sens really, really stink".
Really, I'm kind of speechless because everyone didn't play as well as they should have. The splitting of the Pizza Line didn't work, and really it never works. Alex Auld looked a bit shaky. And our defense, well, see the scoreboard yourself.
Isn't it a bit disturbing that Chris Neil, Jarkko Ruutu, Chris Kelly, Jesse Winchester, and Shean Donovan have more goals than our "supposed" to be secondary scorer, Antoine Vermette? I mean, Winchester isn't a big surprise, Donovan has played on a line with Vermette so both of them get some credit, and Kelly is supposed to score some goals too, but Chris Neil and Jarkko Ruutu have more goals than Vermy? Holy crap, are we on Pluto?
Ruutu got the lone shorthanded goal tonight with assists from Kelly and Phillips. Filip Kuba and Brendan Bell didn't have thier best game. However, I thought Picard was the best player tonight for the Senators. He was finishing his checks, he didn't give away any pucks, and was smooth with the puck. He has developed in his time with the Sens, and will be pivotol in the Sens' future.
So, rumours. Well, I can assure you Craig Hartsburg is not on the hot seat. He was brought here specifically to help our defensive structure and work with our young players. He has odne both, but he was handed over an offensive mess. If it's the person that maybe should be on the hot seat, it is Bryan Murray.
With Mats Sundin finally making up his mind, Vancouver wants to compliment him with a two-way forward. The Canucks are looking at Vermette, and all I'm hearing is Vermette for Burrows. I think it would be a good deal. Burrows has 8 goals and 8 assists for 16 points. That's 3.3 times better than Vermette's point total.
Thanks For Reading, and remember, tomorrow come here at 6:45 PM ET for the Senators-Stars Live Blog!!!
